Vernon Kaye is married to the equally annoying Tess Daly (Strictly Come Dancing)

Any connection to Tim Daly, the actor?

Never liked Mr. Pitt myself (I'm rather picky!) but what's the story of him naked? Just curios...though I got what you meant that after seeing him like that he should wear a paper bag on his head...LOL!

It's my impression that Tess Daly is to "Strickly Come Dancing" as Samantha Harris is to "Dancing With the Stars". I remember Vernon Kay from that summer one hit wonder show that NBC had a couple years ago. What I really remember about him was that his hair made him look like the lead singer of a 60's British invasion band. LOL!

Afraid I'm going to have to disagree with the anti-Leo sentiments, though. He's actually one of my favorites going back to "What's Eating Gilbert Grape." Plus, even though it's not cool anymore to like "Titanic" it still ranks as one of my all-time favorite movies. I also thought he was fantastic in "The Aviator". I'd put him on my list of 5. :D

ETA: Tim Daly is the son of James Daly and the brother of Tyne Daly. He is from a showbiz family but I don't think Tess Daly figures in the picture.

There Will Always Be A Space In My Parking Lot

My friend Brice Kennedy has the last word on John Polonia here.

Although I have been glad to provide all of these links it is sad that it had to be done at all. I still have been getting a steady stream of hits for people looking for information about John, from many fans and friends, I'm sure.

What is strange is that the second biggest influx of hits have been people seeking Goran Visnjic and Maura Tierney sightings, which my wife had both of in Chicago this past year, wandering onto the set of "ER."

While I'm getting meta I thought I would mention that I am starting to label all of my posts (see sidebar) for easier searching of my site, because after almost a thousand posts in around five years even I have lost track of all that has coming flying out of my behind. Especially since I have had what is now evident to me an annoying tendency to title posts after whatever music I happen to be listening to at that time. I have all of 2008 and 2007 done, but bear with me as I work back through the calendar.

In the meantime, I got a lot of reading done during my worldly travels of the last month or so. You can check out more here.

Until later, I'm at johnoakdalton@hotmail.com.

From The Transparant Hypnotist: http://theunwindingpath.com/transhypno/2008/03/21/in-media-res/

For this Esoteric Saturday (and yes, it’s Saturday in my time zone) I’d like to draw your attention to the vast and fascinating topic of hypnosis in the media.

As hypnotists, of course, we often cringe at the way hypnosis is portrayed in movies such as Curse of the Jade Scorpion and Office Space. Or we can appreciate the effort that goes into the (very) occasional more realistic portrayal, such as Derek Jacobi in Dead Again or Goran Visnjic in Close Your Eyes. It’s sort of an occupational hazard, just as those in any other profession can cheer or jeer at how that profession comes off in a movie or TV show. (Don’t even get my sister Connie started on the medical fidelity of House!)

I bring this up because a few weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting and talking with Terry O’Brien, owner and architect of the Hypnosis In Media Wiki. Terry has spent years chronicling, documenting, and studying the portrayal of hypnosis in movies, television, and print media. The wiki is a work in progress, with only a fraction of Terry’s collection of material actually posted to this point, but what he has is fascinating. This is scholarly website, organized to be easy to search through, and it’s very easy to spend more time than you ever intended clicking through the pages.

As an example: the photo at the top of this entry is a still taken during production of the 1960 horror film The Hypnotic Eye. The man in the photo is Gil Boyne, one of the best known hypnotists of the 20th century. Terry learned in his research that Gil Boyne actually hypnotized the people who were to be part of the stage hypnosis shows in the movie, so that they would truly look and seem hypnotized during the filming of those scenes. So while the movie’s portrayal of the power of hypnosis is as hokey as we tend to expect, that one aspect of the film is surprisingly, intriguingly real.

So if you’re in the habit of sipping your morning coffee at the keyboard, why not pay a visit and see what you can learn about hypnosis in the media?

From Celebtalk...

Tom Cruise’s Valkyrie an Impossible Box Office Mission?

With last fall’s box-office flop “Lions for Lambs” hanging over his head, the buzz is that Tom Cruise’s $100 million film ‘Valkyrie’ is looking to be slaughtered at the box office as well.

In the film he plays Col. Claus von Stauffenberg, a real-life Wehrmacht officer who plotted to kill Adolf Hitler. But as Roger Friedman pointed out, the real problem is that Cruise plays him with an eye patch, a withered limb and “a California accent reminiscent of Jerry Maguire.” Oh, snap!

Friedman writes for Foxnews, “Valkyrie is a set up for not only failure, but ridicule. Take for example this line of dialogue that is spoken to Cruise/Claus by one of his Nazi associates: ‘When the SS catches you they will pull you apart like warm bread.’”

Oh mein Gott! Did German officers really talk like that in pre-Pillsbury Dough boy days?

Despite the fact that the real Stauffenberg was 6′3″ (think Goran Visnjic) and Tom is 5′6″ and they look nothing alike , Stauffie is a national hero to many Germans. Cruise has totally miscalculated in casting himself here. He’s of been better off playing the short Hilter.

After Valkyrie is released in the fall, there’s questions about the direction that the Cruiser’s career will take and it doesn’t look promising. He doesn’t have much lined up - he’s filmed a cameo in Ben Stiller’s “Tropic Thunder” while ridiculously wearing a fat suit, then he’s doing a comedy called “Men”, directed by Todd Phillips (“Old School,” “Starsky and Hutch”), and another Ben Stiller project called “The Hardy Men”. But where are the BIG movies for Tom?

Sources say Paramount would like to do “Mission: Impossible 4” but are thinking of casting a new young star, or an M:I team the way it was originally portrayed in the 1960s TV series.

“Would I like to do Mission: Impossible”? asked one Paramount exec rhetorically. “Yes, but not starring Tom Cruise.”

It’s a shame this wasn’t made as a German language production since the German film industry makes outstanding WWII films from the German POV including ‘Das Boot’, ‘Stalingrad’, and ‘Downfall’.

Goran Visnjic

Goran Visnjic breaks my heart and not because he's the most achingly beautiful man in the world. He reminds me of a certain ex-boyfriend who is also from that part of the world, tall, dark and brutally handsome, was in an army in the Balkans, went through the Bosnian War, is 36 and is a Virgo. Do I need a television show to interpret my own life through? No, I do not. But Visnjic (or more accurately his ER character Luka who also shares all these same characteristics as my ex and the actor) has that tormented gravity my Goran has. Their faces look older than those of American men their age. Could be the lack of pampering and flouride in water (one has to assume Visnjic's Hollywood smile is not courtesy of Croatian public health care) but also from seeing people shot in the street and the infrastructure of all you know come tumbling down while the rest of the world watches, mute.

I wonder if Luka is similar to my ex or if there is such a thing as a national (or regional) personality. Are all Americans alike on some level. My ex thinks we're spoiled.

Let's see. Problems the average Balkan-dweller has faced:

Problems the average American has faced.

From Jutarnji.hr http://www.jutarnji.hr/kultura_i_zivot/showbiz/clanak/art-2008,4,16,,116133.jl

This article seems to be about this young chef, but it makes reference to Goran Visnjic and Goran Ivanisevic among others. I'll try and get a translation as soon as I can.

Tanja i Goran uživaju u L.A.-u

Hrana i zvijezde

• guverner Arnold Schwarzenegger - voli mesne odreske i inače malo “težu” hranu
• glumac Goran Višnjić - tradicionalna kuhinja, voli ribu i uglavnom klasičnu kuhinju
• glumica Eva Longoria - salate i riba, uglavnom lagana jela

Heard back from Anica, she offers the following on the above article, our thanks to her as always!

About the chef thing- both guys eat at Trani's restaurant, I'd assume the one in San Pedro, J. Trani's Ristorante. It's mainly Italian and pizza, with a bit of fusion. Nothing particularly exciting in the article as it's mostly about Trani himself. On the end, it mentions what some of the celebrities eat there. Not a big surprise here, but Visnjic prefers fish and mainly traditional foods. There isn't anything new or sensational about Ivanisevic.

Here is a link to the restaurant's website with menu:
